Tariff guide

Compare Agile with common Octopus tariffs

OffPeakly compares Agile against selected Octopus tariffs where reliable regional rates are available. Use this guide to understand how each tariff behaves before using the comparison calculator.

Included in the comparison

Octopus Agile

Half-hourly import prices

Compare Agile

Agile changes electricity prices every half hour. It can work well when you can move larger loads into cheaper windows and avoid expensive evening periods.

May suit

Homes that can shift appliances, EV charging, battery charging, or other flexible loads away from expensive periods.

Watch out

A cheap daily average can still hide expensive slots. Your result depends on when your home actually uses electricity.

How OffPeakly estimates it

The comparison matches half-hourly Agile prices to your usage assumptions or imported smart meter pattern.

Flexible Octopus

Standard variable unit rate

Compare Flexible

Flexible Octopus is a simpler standard variable tariff. It is useful as a baseline because the unit rate is not changing every half hour.

May suit

Homes that want a straightforward benchmark with less need to plan around time-of-day prices.

Watch out

A flat rate may be easier to understand, but it can miss value if you can reliably move usage into cheaper Agile or overnight periods.

How OffPeakly estimates it

The comparison applies the regional unit rate and standing charge to the same usage estimate used for the other tariffs.

Octopus Go

Cheap overnight period plus day rate

Compare Go

Octopus Go gives a predictable cheap overnight period plus a higher day rate. It is mainly useful when enough usage can move overnight.

May suit

Regular overnight EV charging or predictable overnight loads such as batteries, appliances, or water heating.

Watch out

The cheap overnight rate only helps if enough electricity actually moves into that window. If most usage stays during the day or evening, Go may not compare well.

How OffPeakly estimates it

The comparison applies the overnight rate to your overnight usage share and the day rate to the rest.

Intelligent Octopus Go

Smart EV overnight tariff

Compare Intelligent Go

Intelligent Octopus Go is aimed at eligible EV households. It combines a predictable cheap overnight period with smart-charging behaviour.

May suit

Eligible EV households with regular overnight charging and a compatible smart-charging setup.

Watch out

Eligibility, smart-charging control, extra charging slots, and supplier rules can affect the real result.

How OffPeakly estimates it

The comparison estimates the published day and overnight unit-rate structure. It does not prove eligibility or model every smart-charging decision.

Octopus Tracker

Daily unit rate

Compare Tracker

Tracker changes the unit rate daily rather than every half hour. It is usually simpler to live with than Agile, but it is still variable.

May suit

Homes that want variable pricing without planning around half-hourly cheap and expensive slots.

Watch out

Tracker prices can change from day to day. A recent comparison is only a snapshot, not a prediction of future prices.

How OffPeakly estimates it

The comparison treats usage at the daily rate, so time-of-day behaviour matters less than it does on Agile.

How OffPeakly compares tariffs

OffPeakly compares tariffs using the same usage assumption so the result is easier to read. Some tariffs are timing-sensitive, so split mode gives a stronger comparison than quick estimate mode.

Agile uses half-hourly rates.

Go and Intelligent Go depend heavily on overnight usage.

Flexible is a simple benchmark.

Tracker uses stored regional daily electricity rates.

Your current tariff is based on values entered by the user.

Standing charges are included where stored or entered.

The result is an estimate, not a bill prediction.

OffPeakly does not recommend switching. Check official supplier terms before acting.

Caveats

Timing matters

Agile, Go and Intelligent Go can change significantly depending on when electricity is used.

Estimates are not bills

Actual bills can differ because of exact usage, tariff rules, VAT, standing charges, supplier changes and future rates.

Some tariffs need assumptions

If timing is unknown, OffPeakly should lower confidence for time-of-use tariffs.

Tracker changes daily

Stored Tracker history can help with context, but it is not a prediction of future daily rates.

Current tariff is user-entered

OffPeakly cannot verify manually entered rates.
